It’s true!

When I created this site, I wrote some pretentious waffle here about my study and my muses and birds singing in the goddamn trees. I placed a photo of said trees and birds and wasn’t it all so whimsical?

Shit happened. My job took over my life and I severed a nerve in my arm in a gardening mishap. (Right!?) We are now barreling towards 2025 and I’m starting over in my outlook and my words.

Anyhoo, here’s the official bit:

Amanda has been writing for most of her (young, oh so young) life, starting on her mother's typewriter - the kind with ribbons, ink, and no electric parts.

While her day job as a Proposal Writer (aforementioend time-sucking job), keeps both her menagerie (dogs, cats and the occasional chicken) and her mortgage fed, she spends her limited downtime writing Speculative, and Science fiction, all with a dash of horror.

She has never met a semi-colon she didn't like and has an unhealthy, but completely understandable, addiction to chocolate and top-shelf whiskey. If that's a tired writer's cliche, then she's living the dream.

Her novella, Resembling Lepus - a tale about a rabbit murderer and why murdering rabbits is not nice, kids - was published by Grey Matter Press in April 2022. In 2023, it won the Aurealis award for Best Science Fiction Novella.

Kool co-authored 1000 Mettle Folds with horror author Steve Gerlach, and she wrote the children’s book The Paper Fox with her brother, Jeremy Kool, as illustrator.

(While you're here, check out the artist who created the background for this site, as well as the cover for Tallwood and all the art of The Paper Fox! Jeremy Kool, my talented sibling. 3-D artist extraordinaire!)

Note: All words are handcrafted from the finest, locally sourced, organic letters. There is NO AI here!

And yes, 'Kool' is a real name. It's Dutch.
